COTIDIANUL: Romanian Senator:WE SHOULD HAVE SAME SEX PARTNERSHIPS IN ROMANIA
Here is an optimistic piece of news about gay people in Romania. I haven't seen one in a very long time, so here goes:

UDMR Senator Eckstein Kovacs Peter wants Romania to make another step towards equality for gays and lesbians. He says that the Family Code dates back to 1950 and is not in tune with the new realities in Romanian society. The senator gave Western states as an example, because the legislation there allows same sex couples to marry, or at least gives them civil rights, like common inheritance, or the possibility to contract a credit together.
"I believe we could patch the Family Code, but we must also rethink it. It is a civil code which was adopted more than 50 years ago, and does not reflect the social realities anymore, not only for gay people, but also in the case of heterosexuals.
We must(...) keep in mind that the developed countries recognize some rights to heterosexuals who are living together, and also to homosexuals who are living together. In some countries, these rights include marriage, like in Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Canada, Israel and even South Africa. In other countries, certain civil rights are given to same sex couples. I think this is the road we should take, also" Eckstein Kovacs Peter said.

I know who my vote goes to, at the next elections. UDMR will have not only Hungarians by its side, but also gay people. It is obvious that the Hungarian minority is a little more forward thinking and more tolerant than the Romanian majority.
KUDOS to mr Eckstein Kovacs Peter! You have won my vote!
I think it's great that the Senate is not populated only with homophobe, narrow-minded fat bastards, but also with people with a sense of justice. This man deserves a special award, not only for his correct thinking, but also for his huge courage. We need more people like him, to assume responsability for passing a fair minded Family Code.
I'm eagerly waiting for UDMR's legal initiative of modification, and I sure hope things won't stop here, at a declarative level.
Best of luck, mister Eckstein!
